WELCOME PASTOR LELAND ALBRIGHT

Welcome to Pastor Leland Albright who has graciously accepted our invitation to serve as our regular supply pastor for December and January. God bless our ministry together.

Leland Albright was a professor of neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and chief of pediatric neurosurgery at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for many years.  In 2010, he and his wife, Susan Ferson, a pediatric nurse practitioner, felt led by God to move to the Kijabe ( Kenya) Medical Center to teach and to do pediatric neurosurgery as global associates of the ELCA. There was no other pediatric neurosurgeon in East Africa. In Kijabe, they taught nurses and neurosurgery residents. Leland, a neurosurgical fellow he trained, and visiting neurosurgeons from the U.S. did more than 5000 neurosurgical operations before he and Susan returned to the U.S. in 2015. Leland then went to Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and was ordained in Grace Lutheran Church in LaGrange as Minister of Caring in 2017. He served in that capacity until June 2023. He and Susan are now members of Ascension Lutheran Church in Riverside.

FOURTH QUARTER MISSION OPPORTUNITIES

The Fourth Quarter Missions theme is "Feeding/Caring." From now through December you will have the opportunity to make monetary contributions to ELCA World Hunger and Beds+  Please use “Special Offering” envelopes and designate the specific mission OR  CLICK HERE  to give online.  Click “FUND” and then “MISSIONS” and  "SUB FUND" and then select the one you'd like to support.

In November, the Women of the Church will sponsor Bethshan Christmas gifts and the ELCA Thank offering...

- BETHSHAN CHRISTMAS PROJECT- Women of the Church are once again collecting gifts for the Bethshan House. Find the tags in the Gathering Place…take a tag and follow the directions on the attached sheet.  Be sure to return the gifts back to Trinity by Sunday, November 23rd. Thank you for sharing the love of Christ through your generosity   ~ Women of the Church

-WOMEN of the ELCA THANKOFFERING- Every fall, during church services held the weekend before Thanksgiving, the Women of the Church are asked to make a monetary thank offering. Long time Trinity members may remember small thank offering boxes used to collect the donations. Collecting donations in small offering boxes dates to the early 1800s, when women formed “mite” or “cent” societies to raise money. Mite boxes were given out as fundraising tools to collect pennies for the support of church projects and foreign missionaries. Thankofferings show gratitude for God’s blessings and give us an important and tangible way to express that gratitude. It is a tradition grounded in our celebration of community and of meeting together to joyfully give thanks for what God has given us (Hanson, E. 2010. All About Thankofferings, Retrieved 10/10/2025) from https://www.womenoftheelca.org/filebin/pdf/resources/AllAboutThankofferings.n.pdf).

There are purple-edged envelopes labelled, “Women of the ELCA - ELCA Thankoffering” located in the envelope holders in each pew. Donations will also be gratefully accepted on or before November 23. Simply place the envelope with your donation in the offering plate or CLICK HERE to give online.  Click "FUND" ... "MISSIONS" and "SUB FUND" and then select "Women of the Church ELCA Thankoffering."  Consistent with the greater church, the envelopes marked “ELCA Thankoffering” will be collected during Sunday service on November 23, as described above.

2025 TRUNK OR TREAT ...MANY  THANKS!

Our Trunk or Treat was a huge hit this year and I would like to send a shout out to the people who made this possible. I also want to express my deepest gratitude to Karen Weaver and Lynn Jareczek for sharing their invaluable knowledge about previous Trunk or Treats. And finally, huge THANKS to all those who donated water bottles and candy and to the incredible volunteers who gave their time and effort to make this event a success. Thank you all! ~ Diane Valdez

TO OUR VETERANS...

Every waving flag, hand covered heart and deeply felt prayer asking God to bless America...is a declaration of THANKS to all those who have served.  You've shown by example what it truly means to belong to the land of the free and the home of the brave.   Everytime I think of you, I give thanks to my God.  Phillipians 1:3

We pray... Dear Lord,

We thank you for the men and women who have served and continue to serve our country.  We are grateful for their courage, sacrifice, and commitment to protect our freedom and safety. Please bless all veterans and their families. Surround them with your grace, peace, and love, today and always.  Amen.
