LUTHERDALE CONFIRMATION RETREAT 2025

Our confirmation class had a weekend at Lutherdale filled with God and fun! Three confirmation students attended along with myself and Anna Enderle, one of our college students, studying Christian Ministries. The theme for our weekend was Gratitude, Prayer and Community. We had small group time together along with members from 2 other churches. We learned about being grateful for all of the things that God puts in our ives, we talked about the fact that God just wants to talk to and hear from us and there is no wrong way to pray and finally  we talked about the different communities we are in and how they compare to our Christian community. The students spent their Choice Time playing outdoor sports, making arts and crafts and playing GIANT games! Anna and I also spent some time talking with the other adult attendees about Confirmation: what it means, what do we love about it, new ideas, what questions come up and what would we change. It was great to hear about all of the different perspectives in churches with similar situations as us and those that were drastically different.

Our students were asked a few questions before and after our trip. Their responses are summarized below:

Things they were excited about:  hanging out with their friends and drawing closer to God.

Things they were nervous about: meeting and talking to new people.

Ways they were hoping that God showed up: keeping us safe, in our activities and relationships.

What they were hoping to learn: about the relationship between God and Jesus, acts of service, what God does for us and learn about God’s personality.

Favorite part of the trip: events participated in, community, making prayer journals, meeting new people and getting to play Happy Salmon again.

Where did God show up: during prayer, in chapel and hanging out with new people.

What did they learn: God just wants to hear from us/wants to always talk to us, iron sharpens iron.

How do they plan to take this weekend with them going forward: start/continue a prayer streak with God and generally talking more with God.

Looking forward to another great trip in the future! I’ll close with a question that was asked of all of us on Friday night,   “What would you have today if you only had the things that you thanked God for yesterday?”
